Professor Artur Widera from RPTU has been awarded an ERC Advanced Grant of €2.5 million for five years to investigate how quantum effects such as entanglement and quantum statistics influence the performance of microscopic machines. His team will use ultracold atoms to build quantum engines, ranging from single-atom to many-body systems, with the goal of uncovering novel thermodynamic cycle concepts, exploring the fundamental limits of efficiency in the quantum regime, and contributing to the development of future quantum technologies.
