New Member of German Academy of Science and Engineering
Professor Dr. Burkard Hillebrands
Professor Hillebrands, leader of the Magnetism Research Group in the Department of Physics at the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TUK), was elected as a new Member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech). His election was decided by the General Assembly in its October meeting and is now announced. acatech is a national academy supported jointly by the federal government, as well as the states and is a voice of science and technology at home and abroad. It recognizes outstanding scientific achievements and invites experts to contribute in the form of advising in their area of expertise in politics and society.
The academy forms a place for the exchange between science and industry, politics and the public. Its members are selected from the applied and engineering sciences, as well as from humanities and social sciences. The acatech members work together with external scientists in interdisciplinary projects - enriched by the practical expertise of business and society. As an internationally oriented academy, acatech aims at making meaningful contributions to solving the global challenges and combine them with value added perspectives for Germany. In the past, there were only two other professors from TUK, Jan Aurich and Dietmar Eifler who were admitted to this academy.
