Professor Burkard Hillebrands leader of the Magnetism research group at the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern is the current elected chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Board at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. He was elected during the inaugural meeting of the Board of Trustees in September, is eligible to cast votes and will serve a term of three years.

The HZDR is a scientific research center in the Dresden district of Rossendorf with approximately 1,100 employees and an annual budget of approximately 130 million euros. This research center is involved with researching future issues for the fields of energy, health and matter. It also equipped with a variety of cutting edge state-of-the-art equipment, such as the terahertz radiation source ELBE, the strong-field magnetic laboratory, the ion beam center and various so-called beamlines with which accelerated particles can be researched.
