Welcome to the micoscopic world of quantum gases

In our research group we study the microscopic structure of ultracold quantum gases. We are especially interested in fundamental experiments in quantum physics and quantum atom optics as well as many-body physics.

To this purpose we have developed a tool which is based on the principles of scanning electron microscopy. It allows the in situ detection of single atoms in a quantum gas with a high spatial resolution.

The above image shows a Bose-Einstein-condensate in a two-dimensional optical lattice, where several lattice site have been emptied with help of a focussed electron beam.
