Students interested in a Bachelor project in theoretical quantum optics and many-body physics of ultra-cold quantum gases should contact Prof. Fleischhauer or any other group member.

Topological systems are sensitive to particle loss. Our group investigates if an open system (a system coupled to reservoirs with particle exchange) can have topological properties such as quantized transport and if this can be made insensitive to particle losses. Recent work has confirmed this for fermionic and spin systems, which are however difficult to realize in an experiment. In the Bachelor project these calculations shall be extended to bosonic systems.
