  • Study: Open quantum system shows universal behavior

Universal behavior is a central property of phase transitions, which can be seen, for example, in magnets that are no longer magnetic above a certain temperature. A team of researchers from Kaiserslautern, Berlin and Hainan, (China) has succeeded for the first time in observing such universal behavior in the temporal development of an open quantum system, a single caesium atom in a bath of rubidium atoms.

  • Study: Physicists create giant trilobite molecules

Kaiserslautern physicists led by Professor Dr. Herwig Ott have succeeded in directly observing trilobite molecules for the first time. These very large molecules get their name from their resemblance to fossil trilobites. Due to their size, they have the largest electric dipole moments of any molecule known to date.

  • Eleven million euros for spin research: Collaborative Research Center in Kaiserslautern and Mainz receives funding for another four years

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) is funding the Transregional Collaborative Research Center (CRC/TRR) "Spin+X - Spin in its Collective Environment" for a further four years with eleven million euros. It is coordinated by the University Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU), with Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz also involved.
